Dr. Akshaya Goyal
Phaco, Squint and Retina Specialist
6 Years Experience
Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh
I started my journey in field of medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Karnataka where i was blessed to learn from the stalwarts of the medical fraternity. I then pursued MS in Ophthalmology from MGM Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad, Maharashtra. I was fortunate to be blessed with extremely supportive professors and mentors who motivated me to face the challenges in life head on!
My thesis topic included performing eye examination and providing eye care to differently abled children who had hearing impairment. It taught me humility and gave me the will to continue doing work for weaker and dependent sections of our society.
After completing MS in Ophthalmology, I pursued training in Phacoemulsification surgery from I Care Eye Institute, Noida. After completing advanced Cataract surgery training, i joined Sankalp Hospital, Ambikapur as a consultant and provided my services to the people around the city and performed hundreds of Cataract Surgeries in charitable trust. After working for approximately an year, I realized that people suffer from a lot of retina diseases and the eye disorders of the children are often overlooked.
This motivated me to take a break from work and pursued my training in Pediatric Ophthalmology from H V Desai Eye Hospital, Pune and Medical Retina from Venu Eye Hospital, New Delhi. I have been fortunate and blessed to have worked under the leading names in the field of Ophthalmology. Coincidentally all my mentors and i shared a common bond of love for Ophthalmology and also Love for Rock music (Read Pink Floyd). I then joined back Sankalp Hospital, Ambikapur and have been continuing my services here since 2019.
I believe in staying updated with the recent trends and embrace the advancements in technology. Health care and eye care technologies are expanding at a very fast pace, people in smaller cities must also get the chance to opt for new technologies and choose what is best for them.
Sankalp hospital has provided me an opportunity to work with the needy and grow professionally in a work environment conducive for growth and personal development. Community healthcare being our biggest motivation, we have performed thousands of Cataract surgery on the needy and the weaker section of the society.

Childhood Cataract
Describing a Cataract
The transparent structure located behind the pupil of the eye is the lens. When a cataract affects the eye, it clouds the lens and makes it less transparent.
A cataract prevents light rays from passing through the lens and focusing itself on the retina (tissue at the back of the eye).
A Unilateral Cataract is when one eye gets affected and Bilateral Cataract shows its effect on both the eyes.
