Eyecare Helpline began its rural outreach eyecare drive with its first ever eye camp at Village Burgan Tehsil Phool, district Bathinda in Punjab. A joint team from of around ten members from Ekjyot Eye Hospital and Max Hospital, Bathinda including medics and para-staff conducted this camp. Volunteers from villages and students from the collaborating organization of Baba Farid group also helped in the smooth camp activity.
Eyecare Helpline chose to launch its flagship Free Camps initiative on the auspicious birth date of our founder member Mr Abhinav Gupta. In the very first camp, some 175 patients of this neglected region were screened for any potential eye disease. 38 patients were found to have cataract of some nature and warranted surgery; among them, nine patients were operated in our associated EKJYOT Eye Hospital at Bathinda on priority basis & completely free.
The camp was organized in collaboration with CSR wing of Baba Farid Group of Institutions (BFGI). To rope-in, the grass root leadership for better public awareness and local response, the village Sarpanch Mr. Lakhvir, Panchs, and village volunteers were made to pro-actively participate in this first community health care initiative of EyeCareHelpline.com.
